Our Mission

Through sustainable ecological practices, we are working to preserve limited natural resources and protect the beauty of our environment. Sharing produce from the farm with the local markets and practicing sound ecological farming methods, we set an example for those around us and actively work to spread the message.

About the Property

4 Casitas supports the farm’s vision, mission, and values, through financial and behavioral contributions, while providing guests a unique environment in which to experience the beauty of Southwestern Puerto Rico.

4 Casitas is the latest of several stages of the farm’s plan to develop an urban-like, self-sustaining farming community. The casitas were designed by Architect, Daniel M. Johnston AIA of Atlanta, Georgia with the intent to create a sustainable housing development. While not completely self-sustaining just yet, the farm utilizes renewable energy with supplements from the grid and has its own water supply from rainwater harvesting built into the structure. We strive to recycle as much of our resources as possible and the property is endorsed by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. The capture and reuse of rainwater and gray water are some of our most significant contributions to date. We can treat and store approximitely 120,000 gallons of usable rain water which helps us get through our dry months. We also have the capability of collecting our greywater for irrigation purposes.

Given our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the overall development, the casitas do not have conditioned air. Through the use of double-height ceilings, concrete walls, careful window placements, and multiple commercial ceiling fans, interior temperatures are kept as low as possible year round through thoughtful design.

An important note to our guests, be aware that living on a tropical farm means dealing with all of nature’s creatures.  The Casitas are screened-in and while we can manage the occasional harmless gecko or insect, guests should recognize that we cannot fully isolate them from all aspects of farm life.
